Our mission is to make your job as a medical provider a little easier—so we gathered some valuable information about the insurance companies you work with on a daily basis for your review. To do so, we surveyed 10 medical billers and asked them about their experiences with different insurers. While these questions ranged in subject matter, one pertained to Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). Our question was: What is the best EAP to work with? And why?
Before you read the results below, remember that they are based on the sole experiences of the 10 medical billers we surveyed. And just because a given insurer wasn’t listed as the best EAP to work with, it doesn’t mean they don’t offer valuable resources to employees and their families.
The highest percentage of voters (30%) said that Cigna was the best EAP to work with. This number was followed by 20% of voters who claimed they didn’t work with EAPs enough to provide accurate information and another 10% that said, “all are slow and pay low.” The remaining votes were split evenly between varying companies: Aetna (10%), Magellan (10%), UnitedHealthcare (10%), and ComPsych (10%). Thirty percent of voters agreed that Cigna was the best EAP to work with. One biller said that Cigna is very clear in their codes, another said “there is no paperwork involved and claims are electronic unlike with most others,” and the third didn’t offer any additional information. Cigna has been around for over 200 years and has been helping people improve their health and wellbeing ever since. Their team is comprised of dedicated members who truly care about each and every customer.
One biller identified Aetna as the best EAP to work with, as “the paperwork is easy and there are usually no issues paying.” Aetna is committed to providing simple, convenient healthcare, which enables customers to live healthy, happy lives. According to the CEO and President Mark Bertolini, Aetna’s values—simplicity, focus, and connection— are at the forefront of everything that they do.
Another biller voted for Magellan and simply said, “Magellan is pretty easy to deal with.” Magellan prides itself on going above and beyond for its customers with its behavioral health and employee assistance program services. The team members focus on doing everything they can to improve the health and wellbeing of each customer.
Another survey respondent said that UnitedHealthcare (UHC) was the best EAP to work with because you can bill electronically. UHC serves millions of customers and supports them through their working lives all the way through retirement. The team at UHC is united by their desire and mission to help people live healthier lives and improve the health system for all.
And finally, a last survey respondent said that ComPsych was the best EAP to work with “because they process and pay usually without any issues.” ComPsych is the largest provider of employee assistance programs (EAPs), as well as a worldwide leader of behavioral health and wellness. This is important information to review, as EAPs provide a range of helpful services and resources to employees and their families. And we know that you want to ensure you work with the most reliable companies out there. So, consider the reports of the 10 medical billers above, but also remember this: there are plenty of great EAPs out there and those surveyed were asked to identify just one. And also keep in mind that there is plenty of other information out there worthy of your review.
